The Town Hall, a stately three-story building, opened its doors in the late nineteenth century (1878) and has become the most notable civic building of the city and much of the region. Its foundations rest on the stone quarry of an old sixteenth century building. In the heart of the Plaza Mayor, the building that one can enjoy today offers a historic aesthetic which is emphasized by the stone shield reliefs of its façade .

Inside, we find the City Council’s offices. The building also houses the Ethnographic Museum of Guilds and the Historical Archive, with one of the largest collections in Andalusia. In the basement, a former prison of the Judicial 1878 Party, you will be able to acquaint yourself with the Ethnographic Museum which has a section devoted to Craft Guilds. Here you will find a permanent exhibition of the different crafts as well as architectural, domestic and agricultural artifacts that have inhabited these lands for centuries.

In addition to all this, the Historical Archive has the oldest records of the conquest of this city by the Catholic Kings and all the documents produced by the City Council since 1496. This makes this library´s collection one of the most important in Andalusia.
