There is no doubt that these lands have given shelter to people for more than six thousand years. The primitive ways of life have survived through the remains of their ancient settlements, often buried under several layers of soil the centuries have left behind.

It’s hard to imagine a life so far from today´s comforts, a life where the main treasure was to have a roof over your head and a small fire to warm yourself. This is what we intend to demonstrate with this replica prehistoric hut which shows the way people lived between the Neolithic period and the Copper Age.

It recreates daily scenes using reproductions of household goods and furniture. The vessels and small tools next to the fire began to be used daily when people settled in the first stable populations around Europe, particularly in the southeast of Spain, with the culture of Los Millares.

The reconstruction has been made in the same place where a Chalcolithic settlement used to exist. It was built based on the findings of archaeological excavations, which uncovered the circular foundations of huts. The first people who left the nomadic lives in Europe settled in this area of Almeria and used this type of shelter.

Once you have visited the hut, remember to stroll through the palm grove, which serves as the current Fairgrounds and used to be an old palm oasis on the outskirts of the city.
