The importance of a town is measured by the number of temples it has. Therefore if we consider this lesson from the past, we appreciate the greatness of the town of Vera. The Parish Church of the Incarnation in the Plaza Mayor is one of many other temples that have served as places of worship for the town´s congregation since it opened its doors as a refuge for early Christians living in the region.

Proof of this is the Chapel of St. Augustine where we stand. It used to be the old chapel of the Royal Hospital of St. Augustine, which was built by the Emperor Charles the fifth in the early sixteenth century. This is a sober, single nave, late Baroque building with niches in between its interior chapel buttresses and dedicated to Our Lady of the Miraculous.

On the outskirts of town we find the Hermitage of the Virgen de las Huertas, a simple building of the same age which used to clearly demonstrate the local architectural tradition prior to its current refurbishment.

The people of Vera also proudly display the hermitages of San Ramon in the Glorieta de Vera, and the temple dedicated to the Virgin of Sorrows.
