We find ourselves on one of the best-known beaches of Almería’s Levante region, Vera’s Puerto Rey beach. It was one of the first areas to be developed on the municipality’s coastal zone and its beach occupies nearly half of the Vera coastline.
In total it stretches for 2,300 metres from the mouth of the River Antas to the Playazo. It is about 140 metres wide, which allows for enjoying aquatic activities, sport and dining by the beach.
Don’t miss a visit to its beach bars and to the area’s bars and restaurants, champions of an extensive menu of Almerian cooking which you can enjoy, whether portions or the smaller, traditional Almerian tapas.
If, by contrast, you prefer your stay in Puerto Rey to be marked by sporting activities, be sure to visit the beach club or its sailing school and sports centres for doing sports like volleyball, beach tennis, paddle tennis or golf.
This beach is a transit area for cetaceans and has a special natural diversity as Vera’s more than five kilometres of beach are located in a Specifically Protected Area of Importance for the Mediterranean. It also has the so-called Puerto Rey lagoon at the mouth of the River Antas. It is a growing oasis with canes and cattails, which stand out among the sands of the beach. There, right on the edge of Vera’s seafront promenade, you can see different species of duck and
migratory birds on their way between Africa and Europe.
